The room bill

1 min readUpdated 2026-10-16For owner, manager, staff

Put a round from the bar or the table onto the guest’s room, and settle it at check-out.

Bar and food can go straight onto the guest’s room bill. There is no paper chit to carry upstairs.

From the till

  1. Take the order at the bar, or at the table on a staff phone. It sits on an open tab, the same as any other sale. See Take your first order.
  2. From that open tab, charge it to the guest’s room.
  3. The order lands on that stay, next to the room nights.

At check-out

The guest pays whatever is left on the bill, by card, cash or bank transfer. A deposit, or the room charge itself, may already have been paid online when the stay was booked.

The invoice is emailed. It is itemised. Room nights are at 20% VAT. The pint and the pie keep the VAT that was already on the till.

If room management is off

The charge-to-room choice only appears where rooms are switched on for the venue. A tab that is not charged to a room is paid in the usual way, on the till. The till itself does not take the card. Your card machine does.
